Perfect Pastels

22 Feb

These are my picks of the perfect pastels!Ice-cream colours are everywhere right now even though the weather isn’t ready for them it’s always nice to pick up a few spring/summer items in advance! Although pastels can be quite muted like this blouse from Oasis, stores such as Zara, ASOS and New Look have all got a hint of neon in their pastels ensuring you won’t look too washed out… pale lilac against pale skin can make you look a little grey! However I do love the muted ice blue of these skinny trousers from River Island, a very wearable pastel for spring! I just bought an apricot blazer from new look yesterday … it’s looking VERY bright currently peaking from my wardrobe considering the dull weather outside..

My favourite way to introduce pastels right now is by wearing pale violet and mint shade nails! Such as the POP Nail varnish above or what I am currently wearing Revlon Charming. The best mint shade I’ve found so far is Barry M mint green.

Pastels are a great Spring trend and there is so much colour choice making it really accessible for anyone.

*just take note too much ice cream can make you feel sick this also applies to ice-cream coloured clothing.

Return of the Mac

23 Sep

Return of the Mac/Trench coat… I downright REFUSE to accept these ‘early weather reports’ of SNOW for October. No. Not happening. No. I will be wearing my trench coat until there is snow on the ground in DECEMBER! (if it really does start snowing in October try the stone trench with fur collar from Urban Outfitters!)

Moving on… the mac or trench has been around for years and still looks so classic and chic! The stone and navy shades are particularly versatile and can be worn year after year.  However this Sonia Rykiel rust mac and Kookai brown trench both from ASOS are serious competitors! It really is the perfect after-summer coat! I have to give it to romwe.com for their extensive collection of trench coats- seriously impressive colours, styles and shapes. Don’t be afraid to spend a little extra on a well-cut mac it really will serve you well! Plus who knows you might get your moment in the rain a la  Holly Golightly…*

Friday Finds -September

2 Sep

Friday Finds….. it’s the first friday of the month so here are the items I’ve found while doing other posts that I liked but didn’t quite fit…the underdogs if you will! I had a thought to ‘theme‘ the friday finds so it wouldn’t look like a charity shop display but since starting a new job I’ve had much less time to be ‘theme-ing’ and whatnot! So here you are the first friday finds of September. It’s a little bag-centric but this is the time everyone goes back to school, college, work (after holiday) so a new bag is a little luxury purchase heading into the autumn/winter months! I just found this stunning little orange suede number from River Island (there is also a deep purple version!) a great size, colour and little bit of glamour in the gold accents (*see yesterdays post). These blue earrings are another Etsy find…just great for jewellery and amazing prices for such original pieces!

The floral open cardi from forever 21 is a nice transitional piece and the open cardigan seems to be having a moment along with kimonos! This little black and white bomber jacker from Zara is fab, this shop is my number one stop these days so much choice!!

A few other choice bags including ASOS featuring Mischa Barton ‘s bag line which is surprisingly wearable and cool yet affordable..will definitely be posting more of these! Also since working in an office I’m going to start adding items to my desk and would really enjoy these ‘facebook-like/dislike’ stamps from Urban Outfitters!

Hope you enjoy this Fridays finds…must remind myself to theme for October!!

Print My Pant

22 Aug

Printed pants/trousers/leggings/harems are the new black… no, not exactly but they are a big trend moving from summer floral prints to Aztec and snake print for autumn/winter! These Aztec leggings from River Island and Urban Outfitters would look amazing with simple long tee’s, shirts or knits. Although I like these snake print options on jeans I still haven’t let go of my leopard accessories just yet! My fave printed jeans I’ve seen so far are these burnt orange horse print jeans from ASOS, love the colour and print! Printed pants can be a little overwhelming at first but there are smaller print options such as these polka dot trousers with belt from Forever 21. I prefer simple colours and styles making the print the focus of the outfit but with the right look and a whole lot of confidence clashing prints can work!

Big in Japan

10 Aug

Ki-mo-no

noun, plural -nos.

1.a loose, wide-sleeved robe, fastened at the waist with awide sash, characteristic of Japanese
costume.
2.a woman’s loose dressing gown.

(via dictionary.com)
The kimono is elegant, chic and comfortable. It can dress up any plain top and jeans or be thrown over a dress at night. I’m particularly fond of the sheer nude, pinks and navy versions with decorative birds, flowers or simple beading.  Such an easy way to improve a simple outfit! This blue embroidered version from River Island is gorgeous and could be used as an alternative to a short jacket or blazer. There is an extensive choice online from both Topshop and ASOS, as well as E-bay and vintage online stores.Of course the authentic Japanese kimonos would be the most coveted in luxurious silk brocade but the high street has more than enough to choose from if you can’t make it to Tokyo anytime soon!

True Blue

7 Aug

Rich blue shades like the dress worn by Blake Lively to the MTV movie awards are now being seen in shirts, bags, jeans and dresses everywhere on the high street. I adore this colour it’s so bright and cheerful and is great for colour-blocking! This ASOS clutch would give a huge pop of colour to a plain LBD or LWD (little white dress) as would these leggings from romwe.com. I’ve also chosen this parka in royal blue it’s a lot more interesting than the typical beige or khaki parkas worn over floral dresses for festivals! Blue stones in bracelets and these blue feather earrings by Miss Selfridge really make a statement as do these amazing shoes from Office. (links below!)

Note: Avoid pairing more than one or two blue items together as people will think you are a promo girl for the smurfs movie.

All Laced Up

2 Aug

Ever since Kate Middleton walked down the aisle at Westminster Abbey last April lace has truly earned a place in my wardrobe. It’s both feminine and sexy, you may first have thought of Dita Von Teese but now everyone from Emma Stone to Katie Holmes (Yes  really and looking fabulous in black lace on the cover of Spanish Vogue) are coveting this trend. Lanvin, Dior and Marc Jacobs all featured lace to name a few with Marc Jacobs opting for coloured lace which the high street has definitely picked up on. Below I’ve featured a few dressy and casual options for lace, particularly fond of the neon midi ASOS skirt and the green lace casual sweater from Zara.

The only rules to lace are to watch the length of dresses, shorts, sleeves etc as shown by Miranda Kerr and Emma Stone here, both sexy yet demure.
