Get Bright Get Right!

22 Jan

The new looks this season are BRIGHT! We can’t seem to let go of the colour-blocking trend which we saw sweeping the catwalk and high street last year! The great thing about brights is that you don’t need a lot to really liven up your outfit just a touch here or there will give you that spring feeling a little early! I’m loving this coral shade so pretty (actually I had to re-do this post to edit out some of the many many coral/orange items I had chosen!). If your workplace is relaxed on colour I would highly advise these high-waisted trousers from Forever 21 paired with a crisp white shirt would be so refreshing for Spring! Another great option for a quick work to night out look would be to pair this hot pink peplum top (Awear) with a pencil skirt, it’s feminine but well-cut for a working wardrobe. I have of course thrown in many casual items like these pink skinny jeans from River Island, a bright blue top from Forever 21 and coral boat shoes also from River Island easy to mix and match with tamer shades!

My favourite item here has to be the illuminous yellow laptop case from ASOS the perfect injection of BRIGHT!!

Not everything is black and white..

15 Jan

Grey (via dictionary.com)

of a neutral tone, intermediate between black and white…dismal or dark, gloomy…neutral or dull.

All ways I would also describe the month of January.  Without the Christmas lights and decorations everything starts to look a little gloomy… however grey does not have to be dull! Grey is an all-flattering colour as it comes in so many shades and is less stark on the skintone than jet black! It’s an effortlessly chic colour appropriate for day and night and especially for the working girl. It can be worked as shown above in a number of different ways from office wear e.g. the Zara overcoat or long pleated skirt, for the pretty/boho in the ASOS grey sheer pleated dress or the rock chic in the horse print mini-dress paired with a leather jacket and heels. It’s such an accessible shade and can be accented with colour. Turquoise blues and coral pinks work particularly well for a pop of colour!

Don’t know where to start adding grey to your closet? You can’t go wrong with a grey cashmere jumper! Effortless and easy.

Faux in the Snow

18 Oct

Have some faux in the snow this winter with fur! We are spoilt for choice from the high street and just a touch of fur will really enhance your everyday winter look. There are fabulous faux furtippets‘ or add-ons that can be attached to the lapels of any boring winter coat for a bit of added glam! Above are a few of my top picks from the high street and online stores. Gilets are big news again this year and there are a variety of colours and styles available.

I’m a bit obsessed by this deep red fur jacket from ASOS the colour is just amazing and it looks so expensive! The snow leopard print from River Island is another option (you may blend into the scenery in a few months time though), or you could go for  the classic brown chestnut coloured fur coat from H&M. Not into full on fur? Use the little touches such as a scarf, tippet or bag to add some winter lux this season!

Magnificent Miu Miu!

28 Sep

Miu Miu have always had fabulous handbags I love the simple shapes and colours. Just last week I spent a good 10 minutes 20 minutes circling a table full of Miu Miu bags while shopping last week. I couldn’t bring myself to look at the price tag…until now. So here are a few bags from the collection that are WELL above my budget….time for the lottery.

And a lesson in how NOT to wear lace!

7 Sep
Following on from the lace post a few weeks back *https://theglitterpost.wordpress.com/2011/08/02/all-laced-up/ we now have a prime example of how NOT to wear lace (which should be printed out and stuck onto your wardrobes for future nights out). TMS Too Much Skin showing… Too Short…Too Much underwear showing… AND to top it all off a zip running right down the front! She looked amazing at the wedding, is back into shape after having a baby and ruins it with one dress!

Friday Finds -September

2 Sep

Friday Finds….. it’s the first friday of the month so here are the items I’ve found while doing other posts that I liked but didn’t quite fit…the underdogs if you will! I had a thought to ‘theme‘ the friday finds so it wouldn’t look like a charity shop display but since starting a new job I’ve had much less time to be ‘theme-ing’ and whatnot! So here you are the first friday finds of September. It’s a little bag-centric but this is the time everyone goes back to school, college, work (after holiday) so a new bag is a little luxury purchase heading into the autumn/winter months! I just found this stunning little orange suede number from River Island (there is also a deep purple version!) a great size, colour and little bit of glamour in the gold accents (*see yesterdays post). These blue earrings are another Etsy find…just great for jewellery and amazing prices for such original pieces!

The floral open cardi from forever 21 is a nice transitional piece and the open cardigan seems to be having a moment along with kimonos! This little black and white bomber jacker from Zara is fab, this shop is my number one stop these days so much choice!!

A few other choice bags including ASOS featuring Mischa Barton ‘s bag line which is surprisingly wearable and cool yet affordable..will definitely be posting more of these! Also since working in an office I’m going to start adding items to my desk and would really enjoy these ‘facebook-like/dislike’ stamps from Urban Outfitters!

Hope you enjoy this Fridays finds…must remind myself to theme for October!!

Big in Japan

10 Aug

Ki-mo-no

noun, plural -nos.

1.a loose, wide-sleeved robe, fastened at the waist with awide sash, characteristic of Japanese
costume.
2.a woman’s loose dressing gown.

(via dictionary.com)
The kimono is elegant, chic and comfortable. It can dress up any plain top and jeans or be thrown over a dress at night. I’m particularly fond of the sheer nude, pinks and navy versions with decorative birds, flowers or simple beading.  Such an easy way to improve a simple outfit! This blue embroidered version from River Island is gorgeous and could be used as an alternative to a short jacket or blazer. There is an extensive choice online from both Topshop and ASOS, as well as E-bay and vintage online stores.Of course the authentic Japanese kimonos would be the most coveted in luxurious silk brocade but the high street has more than enough to choose from if you can’t make it to Tokyo anytime soon!
