The Holiday Shop

22 Apr

Although it’s still only April and the weather has been beyond awful with showers, hail stones etc.. the high street is awash with colour. The Aztec, Tribal and Pastel trends luckily lend themselves perfectly to a holiday wardrobe! I always think its best to buy a few things as soon as the summer clothes come in even if you aren’t lucky enough to be seeing the sun for a few months! One of my absolute favourites is this coral skirt from Zara, I wasn’t totally sold on the half skirt half sheer initially, but it’s a summer holiday must! The holiday staple has to be these denim shorts from H&M with the tribal detailing on the pockets and waistband which gives them a little edge. I had to include a printed pant in the holiday shop as they are the current high-street trend splitting opinion! Are they really wearable for every size and style? There are loud and muted options available but the best place to try out this new trend is on holiday…why not try these tropical printed trousers from Oasis? Pair with a plain tank or shirt and really make the trousers the centerpiece! H&M and Forever 21 make up the majority of this holiday haul, they are so affordable and have options for every style and size. Save your spending on wardrobe staples and winter essentials!

Now comes the tough part…how to get this all into one carry-on bag?!

Perfect Pastels

22 Feb

These are my picks of the perfect pastels!Ice-cream colours are everywhere right now even though the weather isn’t ready for them it’s always nice to pick up a few spring/summer items in advance! Although pastels can be quite muted like this blouse from Oasis, stores such as Zara, ASOS and New Look have all got a hint of neon in their pastels ensuring you won’t look too washed out… pale lilac against pale skin can make you look a little grey! However I do love the muted ice blue of these skinny trousers from River Island, a very wearable pastel for spring! I just bought an apricot blazer from new look yesterday … it’s looking VERY bright currently peaking from my wardrobe considering the dull weather outside..

My favourite way to introduce pastels right now is by wearing pale violet and mint shade nails! Such as the POP Nail varnish above or what I am currently wearing Revlon Charming. The best mint shade I’ve found so far is Barry M mint green.

Pastels are a great Spring trend and there is so much colour choice making it really accessible for anyone.

*just take note too much ice cream can make you feel sick this also applies to ice-cream coloured clothing.

Belt up Look sharp

13 Sep

Belt up to look sharp using a thin belt that cinches in the waist giving a great silhouette. The high street has gone head-first into this trend of belting dresses and many of these beauties are featuring thin tan belts that seem to suit EVERY colour imaginable! As well as taking a few inches off the waist these belts give a casual touch to dresses like this red lace number from ASOS and black dotted dress from Forever 21. It’s such a simple and cheap way of updating a dress and I’ve found some great thin tan, studded and coloured belts from Primark/Penneys for as little as £2/euros,  a seriously affordable look for autumn/winter as many of these dresses could easily be paired with tights and boots!

Any trend that takes inches away from the waist is a godsend. Embrace it!

I would go out tonight but I haven’t got a stitch to wear..

12 Sep

The weekend arrives and all around the world girls stand in front of their wardrobes with a look of panic and despair as there is not one SINGLE item of clothing that will do for their night out. I have personally looked through every piece at least 3 times before running back to an old reliable… Back in the pre-recession days I would regularly buy new dresses and they are now over-worn and I am left underwhelmed. It’s time for action and these are a few dresses that are inexpensive enough for a pay-day purchase.

This first dress from Reiss combines lace AND metallic a clear winner!I also love this black long-sleeved dress with leather panel from Oasis which would look insanely good with either black shoe-boots or a colour block heel. Warehouse have gone sophisticated chic with simple navy and white but beading detail on the cuff and I could not leave out this blue number from lipsy such a great shade!(hint hint https://theglitterpost.wordpress.com/2011/08/07/true-blue/).

ASOS overall for me is THE  place to find your perfect night out dress just a ridiculous amount of choice. A few other picks in there, a little something for the party girl with statement sequins, girly girl and a casual night out so NO EXCUSES next weekend.

Friday Finds -September

2 Sep

Friday Finds….. it’s the first friday of the month so here are the items I’ve found while doing other posts that I liked but didn’t quite fit…the underdogs if you will! I had a thought to ‘theme‘ the friday finds so it wouldn’t look like a charity shop display but since starting a new job I’ve had much less time to be ‘theme-ing’ and whatnot! So here you are the first friday finds of September. It’s a little bag-centric but this is the time everyone goes back to school, college, work (after holiday) so a new bag is a little luxury purchase heading into the autumn/winter months! I just found this stunning little orange suede number from River Island (there is also a deep purple version!) a great size, colour and little bit of glamour in the gold accents (*see yesterdays post). These blue earrings are another Etsy find…just great for jewellery and amazing prices for such original pieces!

The floral open cardi from forever 21 is a nice transitional piece and the open cardigan seems to be having a moment along with kimonos! This little black and white bomber jacker from Zara is fab, this shop is my number one stop these days so much choice!!

A few other choice bags including ASOS featuring Mischa Barton ‘s bag line which is surprisingly wearable and cool yet affordable..will definitely be posting more of these! Also since working in an office I’m going to start adding items to my desk and would really enjoy these ‘facebook-like/dislike’ stamps from Urban Outfitters!

Hope you enjoy this Fridays finds…must remind myself to theme for October!!

Short Suits

29 Jul

I really love short suits, I like the colour blocking options and the clean, crisp white versions that just scream summer! However as I live in a perpetual rain cloud of an island I can only dream to wear one of these… Many celebs have been caught out sporting a short suit including Abbey Clancy, Chloe Sevigny and Eva Longoria (A short tuxedo really but looking amazing). I feel like it’s accessible for most people and have got my eye on this beauty from ASOS.

Although these suits are accessible and easy to imitate there are some guidelines that should be followed!

1. Tan entire legs with extreme care – it’s a glowing skin, jumped-into-the-suit-right-after-my-holiday kinda look.

2. Wearing the white version (see note 1.) & a nude heel will elongate the leg when paired with a high-waisted short.
