Print My Pant

22 Aug

Printed pants/trousers/leggings/harems are the new black… no, not exactly but they are a big trend moving from summer floral prints to Aztec and snake print for autumn/winter! These Aztec leggings from River Island and Urban Outfitters would look amazing with simple long tee’s, shirts or knits. Although I like these snake print options on jeans I still haven’t let go of my leopard accessories just yet! My fave printed jeans I’ve seen so far are these burnt orange horse print jeans from ASOS, love the colour and print! Printed pants can be a little overwhelming at first but there are smaller print options such as these polka dot trousers with belt from Forever 21. I prefer simple colours and styles making the print the focus of the outfit but with the right look and a whole lot of confidence clashing prints can work!

Scarves, Snoods and Shawls OH MY!

16 Aug

Being an absolute scarf and snood fiend I thought it was only right that I showed a few of my fave pics of the season available online and on the high street. Scarfs, snoods and shawls are one of the most versatile items in my wardrobe they can dress up any old t-shirt, coat or act as an alternative to wearing one at all (shawls!). I like to have huge black scarf/shawl with me while travelling on trains or planes for when it gets cold which it usually does! River Island have actually come up with the goods this season where you’ll see many of choices are from including this galaxy print scarf which I’m already in love with and will be bought very very soon!Miss Selfridge have a great grey and white skull print scarf a nod to Alexander McQueen no doubt. I also adore this red snood from Topshop it looks so warm and cozy. However as it’s only August there are jersey alternatives which are lightweight but still handy on cold evenings to throw in your bag!

I know many people still are yet to get on board with the snoods but they’re unbelievably comfortable and save you struggling with the right way to tie your scarf…I couldn’t recommend them more!

Big in Japan

10 Aug

noun, plural -nos.

1.a loose, wide-sleeved robe, fastened at the waist with awide sash, characteristic of Japanese
2.a woman’s loose dressing gown.

The kimono is elegant, chic and comfortable. It can dress up any plain top and jeans or be thrown over a dress at night. I’m particularly fond of the sheer nude, pinks and navy versions with decorative birds, flowers or simple beading.  Such an easy way to improve a simple outfit! This blue embroidered version from River Island is gorgeous and could be used as an alternative to a short jacket or blazer. There is an extensive choice online from both Topshop and ASOS, as well as E-bay and vintage online stores.Of course the authentic Japanese kimonos would be the most coveted in luxurious silk brocade but the high street has more than enough to choose from if you can’t make it to Tokyo anytime soon!

Knits and Boots – The Autumn Arrival

8 Aug

The arrival of Autumn for me always means cool winds and crazy sun changing to torrential downpours! I’m actually sitting inside while a monsoon shower has begun and I can barely hear myself think (type)! Autumn suggests a move from shorts and flip-flops to cozy boots and jumpers (sweaters for the stateside readers). I’m really liking ankle/calf boots for this year especially with fur lining and some buckle-detailing, I’m undecided whether to go brown, taupe or black but feel its got to be leather not suede (see earlier note on ‘monsoon’). These chunky knits are so good for autumn/winter as you can wear them over a thin tank or layer them with several tops depending on how cold it is! They can be balanced out by pairing them with skinny jeans or trousers. I’m loving all the Aran sweaters (this first pic burnt orange from ASOS) and cardigans..sadly I can’t wear wool which is a pity considering I’m in Ireland where there is an endless supply it seems. Knitwear (especially really thin knits or really chunky knits) is always top of my shopping list for their versatility in layering and comfort in the cold A/W months!

True Blue

7 Aug

Rich blue shades like the dress worn by Blake Lively to the MTV movie awards are now being seen in shirts, bags, jeans and dresses everywhere on the high street. I adore this colour it’s so bright and cheerful and is great for colour-blocking! This ASOS clutch would give a huge pop of colour to a plain LBD or LWD (little white dress) as would these leggings from I’ve also chosen this parka in royal blue it’s a lot more interesting than the typical beige or khaki parkas worn over floral dresses for festivals! Blue stones in bracelets and these blue feather earrings by Miss Selfridge really make a statement as do these amazing shoes from Office. (links below!)

Note: Avoid pairing more than one or two blue items together as people will think you are a promo girl for the smurfs movie.

Friday Finds!

5 Aug

Friday Finds! So the first friday of every month I will put together a few items I find and like ( and that don’t fit into any other post I’m writing!). It’s a bit of a random selection, so I might theme it next month! There’s quite a few picks from Etsy, honestly I’d only ever heard rumblings about the site before so I’m not claiming I knew of it until now as I’m jumping right on the bandwagon! It has really interesting items that would make amazing gifts and some beautiful jewellery! Love these coffee cozies and this jewellery box! I’ve always been a fan of Cath Kidston stuff and this seems to be a new print featured on this day bag! I seem to have missed the start of the owl obsession with necklaces featuring in every shop, EVER! New Look, however has created this owl bangle which I think is really nice and little bit more original when everyone else is wearing the necklace! I’ve also included this gorgeous (little pricey!) ted baker scarf and a few other finds!

(I will definitely ‘theme’ it next time…)

All Laced Up

2 Aug

Ever since Kate Middleton walked down the aisle at Westminster Abbey last April lace has truly earned a place in my wardrobe. It’s both feminine and sexy, you may first have thought of Dita Von Teese but now everyone from Emma Stone to Katie Holmes (Yes  really and looking fabulous in black lace on the cover of Spanish Vogue) are coveting this trend. Lanvin, Dior and Marc Jacobs all featured lace to name a few with Marc Jacobs opting for coloured lace which the high street has definitely picked up on. Below I’ve featured a few dressy and casual options for lace, particularly fond of the neon midi ASOS skirt and the green lace casual sweater from Zara.

The only rules to lace are to watch the length of dresses, shorts, sleeves etc as shown by Miranda Kerr and Emma Stone here, both sexy yet demure.
